You can see the Burj Khalifa from 90 km away. In the flatness of the Arabian desert, the only things higher are the Hajar mountains and the great sky.
It appears, from a distance, as a haze-blue spire, a needle in a haystack. Dubai is proud of it, so proud, so proud that one can’t help but see it as the monstrous after-effect of a dose of Viagra gone horribly haywire.
This, the Burj Khalifa, is Dubai’s prize erection. Its sex symbol. Its manhood. Its phallic signature. Its finger-flip to the world.
